About this Print:
"Visiting Las Cienegas National Conservation Area, in southeast Arizona, I was photographing other subjects, when I encountered a patch of Prickly Poppy. This Desert Grassland encompasses parts of the old Empire Ranch, which remains a working cattle ranch yet. The ranch has also hosted filming of several Hollywood Westerns; the Mustang and Whetstone Mountains are familiar backgrounds. As pointed out in Arizona Highways, this flower is also referred to as "Cowboy's Fried Egg," for obvious reasons. Exploring the subject resulted in this intimate look, photographed after a brief lull in the wind." - Bruce Griffin
